Static V2 Inflatable Sleeping Pad

For a budget summer pad the Static V2 makes sense: 2.5 inches of loft, a full 23 inches wide so your elbows are not in the dirt, and a packed size about that of a water bottle, at roughly half what the well-known inflatables cost. For car camping and warm-weather backpacking it is enough pad. The number that decides it is the R-value of 1.3. That is warm weather only. Sleep on this on 40-degree ground and the cold coming up through your back will keep you awake no matter what your bag is rated, so in most of the country it is a June-to-August pad and nothing more. At 463 grams it is also heavy for what it is; comparable-warmth ultralight pads run half the weight, though at three times the price. The V-baffles are crinkly, and at 2.5 inches side sleepers with sharp hips bottom out on hard ground.
