In line with the FTC's Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255), here is the plain-English version of how RidgeNote makes money: some links on this site are affiliate links, and if you click one and make a qualifying purchase, RidgeNote earns a commission — at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is the same whether you use our link or go to the retailer directly.

How it works

When you click an outbound "buy" or retailer link on a product page, comparison, deal, or guide, the link may route through an affiliate network. The network sets a cookie in your browser so the retailer knows the visit came from RidgeNote. If you then buy something, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. That commission is what funds the site's hosting, data collection, and price tracking.

Which networks and retailers

RidgeNote participates in (or has applied to) affiliate programs including AvantLink, Impact, ShareASale, and Amazon Associates, which together cover outdoor retailers and manufacturers such as REI, Backcountry, and many of the gear brands listed on this site. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Not every link on the site is an affiliate link — some retailers have no program, and we link to them anyway when they are the right place to buy.

Editorial independence

This is the part we care about most: our recommendations are based on data and testing, never commission. Rankings and verdicts come from the specs, measured weights, and manufacturer data — the numbers are the numbers. A retailer paying a higher commission does not move a product up a list, and a product with no affiliate program at all can still win a comparison. We do not accept payment for reviews, and we do not publish fabricated ratings.
