Moab 3 Hiking Shoe

The Moab 3 fits more feet straight out of the box than almost any other hiking shoe, which is why it sells the way it does - a roomy toe box, a supportive suede-and-mesh upper, and a Vibram TC5+ outsole that holds well on dry rock and packed dirt. This is the ventilated version, so it breathes in heat and drains rather than holding water. The honest problem is weight: roughly 900 grams a pair, close to double a trail runner and heavy enough to notice by mile twelve. The EVA midsole is soft and packs out, so the cushioning goes noticeably flat somewhere in the 300-to-400-mile range, and there is no resoling a shoe at this price. The suede panels also stay damp long after the mesh has dried. And if your feet are narrow, the volume that makes this shoe forgiving for everyone else will let your heel move.
