Spot 400 Headlamp

The Spot 400 is what people buy once they stop chasing specifications. Four hundred lumens covers camp chores and night hiking, IP67 makes rain and an accidental dunk non-events, and the red mode plus PowerTap boost are the two features you will actually use. Running on three AAAs, it is repairable anywhere batteries are sold, which is most of the world. That alkaline power is also the weakness: output sags noticeably as the cells drain, so the 400-lumen figure is a fresh-battery number and the last hour of a set is dim. The button interface is the other gripe, since cycling modes and reaching red without blinding yourself takes practice, and lock mode exists because the lamp switches itself on inside a pack otherwise. All three cells sit in the front housing, so at 86 grams it feels front-heavy and bounces if you run. The rechargeable BD 1500 that fixes the runtime problem costs extra.
