One 32-gram tube does the work of several pieces of kit: sun cover for the neck on an exposed ridge, a headband, a dust filter on a windy road walk, an eye cover for sleeping, a pot grabber when you are careless. That much versatility per gram is why it appears on nearly every long-trail packing list, and the recycled REPREVE microfiber dries in minutes. The honest downsides are material and price. This is thin single-layer polyester, so it holds body odor after two or three days in a way merino does not, and it blocks almost no wind; doubled over as a beanie it is a shoulder-season item, not a cold-weather one. The UPF 50 rating applies to the fabric at rest, and it stretches thinner over your face. And its price is a real premium for a printed polyester tube that unbranded versions replicate for a third of the cost.
