PreCip Eco Rain Jacket

The PreCip has been the standing answer to needing a rain jacket without spending flagship-shell money. Fully taped seams, pit zips, and an adjustable hood for mid-range money is about the honest floor for a shell that will actually keep rain out, and the Eco version does it in recycled nylon with a PFC-free DWR. As the jacket that lives in your pack for occasional storms, it is hard to argue with. Understand what a 2.5-layer coated membrane means in practice: breathability is poor. Climb in it in humid weather and you will be soaked from the inside, which is the failure people mistake for leaking, and the pit zips only partly compensate. The printed interior coating is also the wear point; it turns tacky and flakes after a few hard seasons, and there is no repairing that. At 292 grams it is heavier than the premium shells it competes against.
