Yaktrax Pro is the right tool for a narrow job: packed snow and mildly slick trail on rolling ground, where you want grip without carrying spikes. The steel coils bite in every direction, so turning and sidestepping feel secure, they stretch over any shoe in seconds, and the overfoot strap that distinguishes the Pro from the Walk keeps them planted when you move faster than a stroll. At 140 grams a pair and a modest price, they are easy to toss in a shoulder-season pack. Do not confuse them with microspikes. Coils skate on hard blue ice and on any steep frozen slope, which is exactly where people get hurt expecting more than these deliver. They are also consumable: coils stretch and snap, and the rubber frame tears at toe and heel, particularly in deep cold. A season or two of regular use is normal, not a defect.
